"Seek the Lord in ALL you DO!"
JESUS CALLS US OUT AS DISCIPLES!!
Mary & Martha
Key Elements of becoming a Devoted Disciple (Week One)!
1.) Put SITTING BEFORE SERVING! (Ps. 27:4, Mt. 6:33, 22:37)
“Seek the Lord in ALL you do, and He will show you which path to take!” – Prov. 3:5-6
Luke 10:38-42: Sitting with Jesus
38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”
41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
When You put SERVING Jesus OVER SITTING with Jesus it’s Like you’re saying, “Jesus You NEED ME more than I NEED you!
Martha went to Jesus and In her own way said to Him, “Don’t just sit there, DO SOMETHING!” Jesus, in His Loving way, said, “Hold On Martha, Don’t just Do Something, SIT THERE!”
Mary chose what was needed and what was worth Everything! When She sat at Jesus’ Feet she did something shocking. You see, that was the place Only Disciples were permitted to sit! She, a Woman, placed herself as a Disciple of her Lord, Jesus Christ, but what was even more shocking is that Jesus ALLOWED it! In Fact, He said it would NOT be taken from her! At that moment He called her out as His disciple! She sat and Listened to Him, putting time with Him before any chore, or activity, or even before any social expectation. Martha was Distracted. She was carried away with many THINGS. She toiled under the obligations she and others had placed on her. She was Over-Occupied by all she had to do and spending time sitting with Jesus just wasn’t on the list. You see, it was not her passion for serving, or her love of taking care of people that was the problem, those things were her gifts! It was her priorities! She put Serving Jesus BEFORE Sitting with Him and that is the wrong order of Relationship with Him. You see, before we are able to serve Him properly, we MUST spend time Sitting with Him Faithfully. It is there that we can begin to grasp HIS heart and what He desires. It is there that we can be taught and trained. It is there His spirit will fill us, convict us, strengthen us and refresh us. It doesn’t matter if you are a servant, a Learner, a Teacher, a Leader, and Worshiper, or a Witness, there is ONE thing that will always be needed FIRST! Sitting with Jesus and Listening to HIM! He paid Everything in order to BE WITH US…what are we willing to give up in order to BE WITH HIM! Put SITTING BEFORE SERVING!
