HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

This year I found myself kicking off the celebration of Thanksgiving a little differently than I have done in previous years.  This time I found myself in my office, on my knees praying earnestly for our nation, for God’s people, and for my family.  I found the praying was so intense I could no longer see as tears were rapidly falling down my face.  I was crying out to God to Remember us, to not forget us, and while I was crying out to Him (not filled with an overflow of thanksgiving I might add) my daughter ran out to the office building and knocked furiously on the door.  I got up and opened it asking if she was ok, and she grabbed my arm and told me I had to see something that had “Just Literally appeared!”  I walked out on the grass with her and she whipped me around to face my office building, and what I saw made me gasp!  There was the most Incredible, most Vibrant, most Complete Rainbow I had ever seen perfectly encompassing my office!  Both ends of the rainbow resting on either side of our property!  The tears that had been running down my face began falling even faster as the Holy Spirit spoke softly to my soul...“It is not Me that needs to remember You, it is You that needs to remember ME!  I never forget my promises!”

I ran back into the office and began to read again the moment where God made His covenant with Noah!  God had made a covenant with all of creation and He has never forgotten it!  I started to think about how frightening it must have been for the eight people, who had just survived the flood, to experience the very first post-flood rainstorm.  Could you imagine watching it downpour and in that moment the question that must have been on everyone’s mind, will God remember us?  Will he remember His promise?  And then the rainbow shines bright, a breathtaking symbol illuminating the sky for all to see.  A reminder to Them to remember their God!  To remember His Promise, and as they look at the rainbow the sense of thankfulness that must have filled them as they saw God fulfill His Covenant that He had made.  God has Never forgotten His promises before and He will never forget His promises now!  As I meditated on the covenant of God, I knew that in answer to my prayer that day, God was reminding me that He has not forgotten us and He has not forgotten His promises!  In the midst of the flood, a moment where everything seemed so lost, and full of despair, God was moving to establish His Glorious Will.  He was still in control and He still had a plan to save His people!  He knew exactly what He was doing and the created world was under His ultimate command!  The very same thing is true now!  In the midst of what seems like a never ending flood of turmoil and strife, when it seems that there is despair all around us, God is moving to establish His Glorious Will.  He is still in control and He still has a plan to save His people!  The created world is still under His ultimate command!

How amazing that God promised to save the world from the destruction of a flood through the old covenant with Noah, and now through the New Covenant of His Son, Jesus Christ, He is saving the world from the coming destruction!  Jesus said that He is the door and all who enter through Him will be saved!  God has not forgotten His promise, and He will never forget His promise!  He is watching to see that His word is fulfilled and that is something to be THANKFUL for!  As I write this I am looking out my window and there is again another rainbow beautifully positioned within my window frame!  I am filled to overflowing with thanksgiving right now as I am reminded of the covenant of our God!  This thanksgiving I can assure you that it is not Him who needs to remember us, but us who need to remember Him!  Remember Who He IS, Remember all He has done, and Remember ALL He has promised to do!  His promises Never fail! Praise Him!

“Give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations!” - Psalm 100:4-5
